Be sure to disable any virus checking programs. Since Warp7Finder modifies the resources of the Finder, it will be suspected as a virus by any program which checks for this type of activity.
OPENING A FINDER:
After starting Warp7Finder Utilities and dismissing the about box, a dialog box comes up which allows you to select a Finder to modify. If you are only adding or deleting alias files, you do not need to open a Finder, so click Cancel.
If you wish to modify a Finder, you may modify a copy of the Finder by clicking the "Finder Copy" button. To create a Finder copy, hold down the option key and drag the Finder out of your System Folder before starting Warp7Finder Utilities.
If you want to modify your currently running Finder, click the "Current Finder" button. Warp7Finder Utilities will send a 'quit' Apple Event to the Finder forcing it to quit so that it may be modified. After you have finished, you may restart the Finder by quitting all open applications.
SELECT OPTIONS:
By choosing Select Options from the Edit menu, you bring up a dialog box which allows you to select the following options by clicking the corresponding check box.
Boxes already checked indicate that the corresponding modification has already been made(may or may not work properly with a Finder that has been modified with another program).
Set Finder memory to ...:
This allows you to increase the Finder's memory partitian from it's standard 295K. If you are having problems with the Finder telling you to close windows due to low memory or if you are unable to open Control Panels, this may solve your problem. Remember that any memory added to the Finder's partitian is unavailable for applications.
Preload CODE Resources...:
This option allows you to force the Finder's CODE resources to preload in memory at startup. It will automatically increase the Finder's memory partitian to 784K. This will speed up the Finder because it will not have to constantly load and unload CODE segments. I have found that this option is useful when you have a slow Mac with a slow Hard Drive and memory to spare.
Eliminate Rename Delay:
This eliminates the annoying delay (2 sec.) when you want to rename a file.
Disable Zoomrects:
Eliminates the zooming rectangles which slow performance.
Fast Copy:
Speeds Finder copying in the foreground at the expense of slowing background copying.
Max Copy:
Makes more memory available to the Finder when copying.
Disable Application Substitution dialog:
Eliminates the Finder's annoying application substitution dialog .
Add Quit to Finder's File Menu:
Allows you to quit the Finder and free up its memory. If you want to use the vacated memory partitian, you will need a file launching program such as Warp7Launcher.
Click OK when you are finished or Cancel if you want to leave things as they were. You may save your changes now by selecting "Save" from the File menu.
APPLICATION SUBSTITUTION:
Selecting Application Substitution from the Edit menu brings up the Application Substitution dialog box. From this dialog you may add or remove LINKS which allow you to automatically open a document with a substitute application when the creator application is not present.
The LINKS window shows your current links. If you want to remove a link, click on the link to select it, then click the "Remove" button.
There are three ways to create a new link:
1. Type in the file type and creator code as shown in the LINKS window
(ex: TEXT to ttxt). A LINK consists of a file type and a creator code
which are case sensitive. Then click the "Add" button.
2. Select a file type and creator code from the reference list. Then click
the "Add" button.
3. Click the "Select" button. You will be prompted to select a document and
application. Warp7Finder Utilities will get the file type and creator
code from the selected files. This allows you to enter a link when you
don't know the file type and creator code and it is not in the reference
list. Then click the "Add" button.
Click OK when you are finished or Cancel if you want to leave things as they were. You may save your changes now by selecting "Save" from the File menu.
ALIAS MANAGER:
Selecting Alias Manager from the Edit menu allows you to create aliases and place them wherever you want to without dragging them around in the Finder. This is particularly useful when you have multiple volumes and/or deeply nested folders. It also eliminates the alias suffix. All changes you make in the Alias Manager dialog are saved immediately and there is no UNDO!
The two scrolling lists in the Alias Manager dialog labeled Apple Menu and Desktop show the current aliases in these locations on your startup disk. The alias name appearing under "Add or remove this alias" may be placed at any location or removed from one of the lists if it was selected from one. Alias names which are underlined indicate that the target file(the file launched by double clicking an alias) may be on an unmounted volume, may have been removed, or the alias may be corrupted. You may want to remove and then recreate these.
To remove an alias, click the name in the list to select it, then click the "Remove" button. The "Remove all" button will remove all aliases in the Apple Menu and Desktop folders of your startup disk.
There are two ways to add aliases:
1. You may select an alias from one of the lists and then add it to the other
using the"Apple Menu" or "Desktop" button. You may place the alias in
another location by selecting the "Other Destination" button. This will
bring up a standard "Save" dialog. Just navigate to to the desired
location and click "Save".
2. Click "Make Alias". A dialog will appear which will allow you to find the
file, folder or volume you want to make an alias of. For a file click the
"Open" button. For a folder or volume click the "Select....." button. The
alias may then be placed at the desired destination as above.
